Activity Overview

The Clixo Activity Cards are a great way to spark imagination, design, planning and collaboration skills. The prompt cards can be used in a variety of creative ways, including facilitated or independent individual or group activities. The cards are divided into 5 categories: design, nature, science, storytelling, and exploration.

Materials

Introduce

  • Have participants sit by a flat surface - table or floor.
  • Have Clixo pieces readily available in one pile or distributed between each participant.
  • Lay out the activity cards on the table for each participant to choose from.
  • You can place each card category in a pile with the prompt facing down, so participants can pick a card based on the category, without looking. OR you can lay out the cards with the prompts facing up, so each participant can choose their own prompt.

Individual Play

15-30 minutes

For participants to build individually.

Plan:

  • Have each participant choose a prompt card to build.

Build & Create:

  • Give participants 5-15 minutes to plan and build their creation based on the prompt on their card.

Share & Reflect:

  • Once time is up, give each participant a turn to present their creations and building process.
  • Prompt questions:
  • How did you choose the prompt/card?
  • What was your initial plan before you started building?
  • What changes did you make to your plan while working on your creation?
  • What do you like about your creation?
  • Is there anything you would do differently/change?

Group Activity

20-30 minutes

For groups consisting of 2-6 participants.

Set Up:

  • Divide the participants into pairs or groups.

Planning:

  • Have each group decide together on which card to build, or have them select a surprise card from a category of their choice.
  • Allow pairs/groups 5 minutes to plan their design together - discuss their ideas, assign tasks, and pick out the Clixo pieces they want to use.

Build & Create:

  • Give pairs/groups 10-20 minutes to build their creation based on the prompt card.

Share & Reflect:

  • Once time is up, give each group a turn to present their creation. If needed, allocate 5 minutes to plan their presentation - assign roles, pick their presentation type (play, story, description) and reflect on their process.
  • Prompt questions:
  • What is your creation?
  • What does it do?
  • How did you decide which card to choose?
  • What was challenging about planning the build together?
  • What did you enjoy while building together?
  • What do you like about your creation?
  • Is there anything you would do differently/change?

Clixo Charades

20-45 minutes

For groups of 2-15 participants.

Set Up:

  • Divide the participants into pairs or groups.
  • Lay out a limited number of cards (x2-3 the number of groups) with the prompts facing up so that all of the group can see them.
  • Without telling the rest of the group what they chose, have each participant pick a card to build (remind them to not pick up or point at the cards).

Build & Create:

  • Give participants 10-20 minutes to build their creation based on the prompt card they selected (remind them to keep it secret).
  • Once time is up, ask participants to look at their friends' creations. Taking turns, ask the group to guess which creation each participant built, out of the prompt cards lying in front of them.
  • After all participants get a chance to guess - ask the creator to reveal the correct prompt card.

Share & Reflect:

  • Have the creator share and reflect on their creation process, and the group about their guessing process.
  • Prompt questions for creator:
  • What did you build?
  • How did you decide which prompt card to choose?
  • What do you like about your creation?
  • Is there anything you would do differently?
  • Prompt questions for group:
  • What clues did you use to guess the creation?
  • What parts were you correct about?
  • What parts were confusing?
